Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has been honoured with the prestigious Champion of Green Governance award by the Forestry Association of Nigeria, a recognition widely seen as a national endorsement of his administration’s far-reaching environmental reforms.

The award was presented on Tuesday 25 November, at a ceremony attended by policymakers, environmental experts, development partners, and top government officials from across the federation.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, the Special Adviser on Climate Change, Prof. Alamin Muhammed, said Governor Radda was “deeply humbled” by the recognition. According to him, the honour is “a validation of Katsina State’s collective resolve to build a greener, more resilient and more prosperous future.”

Governor Radda noted that when he assumed office, the state faced the harsh realities of desertification, land degradation, water scarcity and rising temperatures across the Sahel. “We refused to respond with despair,” he said. “Instead, we responded with vision.”

He explained that this vision birthed the Katsina State Green Growth Agenda (KAGGA)—a comprehensive framework focused on climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy expansion, green industrialisation, and resilient water and infrastructure systems.

The Governor highlighted major milestones achieved under his administration, including the allocation of 30% of the state’s annual budget to climate-resilient initiatives, the creation of a ₦50 billion Green Investment Fund, and the ambitious target of mobilising ₦150 billion for the state’s emerging carbon economy.

He further pointed to ongoing reforestation efforts such as the planting of over 100,000 economic trees, the nurturing of 3 million seedlings, and Katsina’s commitment to planting 10 million trees by 2030 under the Great Green Wall initiative. “Every tree we plant is a statement of hope for the next generation,” he emphasised.

Key community-based programmes—including A Tree for Every Child, the reintroduction of forest guards, and strengthened conservation systems—are, according to him, “laying the groundwork for long-term environmental stability.”

Reaffirming his commitment to water and infrastructure security, Governor Radda disclosed that the state has constructed 120 solar-powered boreholes, with 60 more underway, alongside investments in rainwater harvesting, rehabilitation of major dams, and the deployment of solar-powered pumps, tillers, tractors and machinery to support climate-resilient agriculture across the 34 LGAs.

He added that Katsina’s green transformation agenda extends to rural electrification through solar mini-grids, the establishment of a Solar Industrial Park in partnership with Genesis Energy, and a Waste-to-Wealth programme that will convert plastic waste into eco-friendly products while creating opportunities for thousands of young entrepreneurs. “Our green economy is becoming a source of jobs, innovation and dignity,” he said.

Governor Radda expressed gratitude to the Forestry Association of Nigeria “for recognising Katsina’s bold and strategic reforms,” and acknowledged past award recipients whose work “continues to inspire new possibilities.”

He dedicated the award to the people of Katsina State, assuring them that “the journey toward a fully sustainable and climate-resilient Katsina has only just begun.”

The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, today paid a courtesy visit to the District Head of Faskari, Sarkin Yammann Katsina, Alhaji Aminu Tukur Usman, at his residence in Faskari.

During the visit, Governor Radda commended the district head and the entire traditional institution for their unwavering contributions toward enhancing security across the state. He noted that the role of traditional leaders has been invaluable, adding that without their cooperation, it would have been difficult to record the remarkable progress currently being witnessed.

The governor emphasized that traditional rulers remain closest to the grassroots and therefore play a critical role in mobilizing communities, supporting security initiatives, and promoting peaceful coexistence. He urged them to continue guiding, training, and equipping their communities with the right orientation and support needed to safeguard their localities.

Governor Radda further appealed to the traditional leaders to sustain their vigilance and deepen their collaboration with government and security agencies as the state intensifies its efforts to eliminate all forms of insecurity. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in every part of Katsina State.

In his remarks, the District Head of Faskari expressed gratitude to the governor for his continuous attention to the security challenges facing the area. He praised Governor Radda dedication, noting that anyone who knew the situation in Faskari before the governor’s assumption of office and compares it to the present would acknowledge a significant improvement.

The district head assured the governor that the people of Faskari, under the guidance of the traditional institution, will continue to support every effort aimed at strengthening security until the remaining pockets of threats are completely eliminated, by the grace of God.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has inaugurated a series of multi-million-naira industrial and social empowerment projects initiated by the Chairman of Faskari Local Government Area, Hon. Surajo Aliyu Daudawa. The projects are designed to improve livelihoods, boost local businesses, and strengthen economic resilience across the area.

The inauguration ceremony, held today in Faskari town, drew a large crowd of residents, community leaders, political stakeholders, and beneficiaries who warmly received the Governor and his entourage.

The empowerment programme—funded by the Faskari Local Government Council—targets families, small business owners, and persons living with disabilities. It aims to uplift households, support entrepreneurship, and promote greater self-reliance among the people of Faskari.

The Items distributed included motor cars, motorcycles, tricycles, sewing machines, wheelchairs, hospital maternity beds, bags of cement, and roofing zinc. These materials show the council’s commitment to helping the people, supporting local businesses, and improving community facilities in Faskari.

In his address, Governor Radda praised Hon. Surajo Aliyu Daudawa for demonstrating remarkable leadership, transparency, and commitment to grassroots empowerment.

He emphasized that the administration will continue to support initiatives that uplift citizens, especially in frontline communities like Faskari that have faced security and economic challenges.

“We appreciate the Chairman’s dedication and sincerity,” Governor Radda said. “This intervention will directly impact families, empower youth and women, and improve the social wellbeing of our people. My administration will continue to bring meaningful development that benefits every community.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Faskari Local Government Area, Hon. Surajo Aliyu Daudawa, explained that the empowerment programme was initiated to support residents, enhance community development, and complement the efforts of the state government.

Governor Radda Hands Over ₦14.05 Billion Water Conservation Project in Sabon Layin Galadima

* Reaffirms commitment to protect frontline communities, increase food production, and improve climate resilience; unveils a major ACReSAL project to boost food security and community growth.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening water security, restoring degraded lands, and enhancing the resilience of frontline communities as he handed over the site for the ₦14.05 billion Water Conservation Structures Project at Sabon Layin Galadima in Faskari Local Government Area.

The ceremony, held today in Sabon Garin Galadima, Faskari LGA, marks another significant milestone under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Programme—one of the State’s flagship initiatives for combating climate change, desertification, and environmental degradation.

In his address, Governor Radda said the project forms a central pillar of his administration’s “Build Your Future” vision aimed at restoring trust, rebuilding livelihoods, and securing the long-term stability of communities across Katsina State.

He stressed that the initiative is far more than physical construction, describing it as “a commitment to securing the future of our people, strengthening peaceful coexistence and enhancing agricultural productivity.”

Governor Radda emphasized that effective water conservation remains crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), boosting food production, supporting pastoral and livestock communities, expanding domestic water access, and building resilience against extreme climate conditions.

In the last two years, ACReSAL has brought major improvements to Katsina State. The project restored more than 30,000 hectares of damaged land and supported over one million people across the state. It also completed important works like stormwater drainage in Katsina, riverbank protection in Jibia, and water-harvesting structures behind Ambassador Quarters. Drainages were cleared in Katsina, Jibia, Malumfashi and Funtua to reduce flooding and improve hygiene.

ACReSAL also boosted water supply, farming and environmental recovery. The state built 180 solar boreholes, deployed a swamp buggy to dredge dams, and supplied 80,000 tons of fertilizer, 38 tractors, improved seeds and farming tools. It also bought waste-disposal trucks and other machines to support cleaner communities. The nurseries in Dikke, Kabukawa and Daura were revived, producing thousands of new seedlings for planting. Energy-saving stoves and ICT support were also given to MDAs to help them work better. 

He noted that these interventions collectively advance Katsina’s agricultural resilience, water management systems, and environmental restoration efforts.

Governor Radda assured that his administration will maintain transparency, accountability and rigorous supervision throughout the implementation of the Faskari Water Conservation Project. He emphasized that every stage of construction will be monitored to ensure value for money and long-term sustainability.

The Governor thanked the Federal Government, the World Bank, and all development partners supporting the ACReSAL Programme. He also commended the Honourable Commissioner of Environment and the State Project Management Unit for their dedication and professionalism.

To the people of Sabon Layin Galadima and the wider Faskari LGA, Governor Radda issued a call for community ownership, urging residents to protect and safeguard the project for the benefit of present and future generations.

Governor Radda formally handed over the site to Messrs. International Consolidated Contractors Offshore (ICCO) and Badawi Azour Trading & Contracting (BATCO) Joint Venture, with an 18-month completion timeline and a total contract sum of ₦14,058,722,072.61. He further assured that the Dam Safety Report will be released soon to guide proper implementation.

Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Hamza Suleiman Faskari, said the handing over of the site for the water conservation structures in Sabon Layin Galadima, Faskari LGA, is an important step under the ACRESAL project. He explained that the project is aimed at tackling climate change, desertification, and water scarcity in semi-arid areas.

He noted that the project shows Governor Dikko Umaru Radda commitment to protecting the environment and improving the lives of rural communities. According to him, the structures will support farming, boost food security, reduce land degradation, and help the community withstand climate challenges. He added that the project also represents hope for the people of Faskari.

He thanked Governor Radda for his support and appreciated the ACRESAL team, development partners, staff of the Ministry of Environment, and traditional rulers for their cooperation. The Commissioner urged the community to take care of the structures and ensure they are maintained for long-term use.

Similarly, the Acresal Project Coordinator, Yusha’u El-Sunais Sani, He explained that the structure is a major project approved and supported by His Excellency, and it stands as one of the most impactful interventions in the area.

He noted that the structure has a storage capacity of 700,000 cubic meters of water, making it one of the significant water bodies serving the community. According to him, the project will improve livelihoods, strengthen food security, and support the Governor’s agenda of reducing pollution and boosting agricultural productivity across the state. He added that the water body will also aid the next phase of irrigation activities and align with wider efforts to expand modern irrigation systems.

He thanked His Excellency leadership, support, and interventions aimed at improving the state’s economy, enhancing food security, and promoting sustainable agriculture. The Coordinator also acknowledged other ACRESAL and state initiatives, including climate-smart systems and new irrigation infrastructure designed to support future agricultural and environmental projects.

The Managing Director of ICCO & BATCO (JV) described Katsina State as a place of strength, history, and kind-hearted people. 

He noted that this project is another addition to the ongoing development efforts under Governor Dikko Umaru Radda. He thanked the Governor for trusting ICCO/BATCO with the work and praised his leadership for driving growth and securing a better future for the people. 

He assured that the company will deliver the project quickly, with quality and full commitment. He also confirmed that the work will be completed within 18 months. He further appreciated Hon. Commissioner Hamza and the ICC Project Implementation Team in Katsina for their support and professionalism.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has returned to Nigeria after nearly two weeks of strategic working visits to Belarus, France, and South Africa. The tour featured a series of high-level meetings focused on strengthening security collaboration, expanding economic partnerships, and advancing Katsina State’s renewable energy and investment drive.

Governor Radda arrived on Sunday, 23 November 2025, at the Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano State, where he was warmly received by senior government officials, political leaders, and enthusiastic supporters. He was welcomed by a delegation from Katsina State comprising, party stalwarts, top government officials, and members of his family before proceeding to Kano for onward movement to Katsina.

During his engagements in Minsk, the Governor held meetings with top government authorities and private sector leaders, securing cooperation in technology education, agriculture, defence collaboration, and youth-focused ICT training.

In Paris, he met with leading French energy companies and participated in strategic sessions aimed at revitalizing the Lambar Rimi Wind Farm and expanding hybrid renewable energy infrastructure across Katsina State.

Governor Radda also made a notable appearance at Ambition Africa 2025, where he further strengthened investor confidence and promoted clean energy opportunities available in Katsina.

The Governor later joined Vice President Kashim Shettima at the 2025 G20 Summit in Johannesburg, exploring global investment prospects in agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and digital innovation, while positioning Katsina as a rising hub for sustainable development.

The governor is now set to resume full official engagements in Katsina, continuing his commitment to driving reforms, implementing key development projects, and accelerating progress across the state.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has secured major investment interest from leading French and Italian companies to accelerate industrialization in the state.

The governor held a high-level business meeting in Paris on November 17, 2025, where European firms expressed strong enthusiasm to partner with Katsina through Public-Private Partnerships.

State Lead Consultant, Mr. Harun Abba Gana, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining Katsina's roadmap for industrialization and investment-ready PPP opportunities across multiple sectors.

Gana emphasized the difference between EPC&F and EPC models, demonstrating how these frameworks provide flexible options for investors while mitigating financial and operational risks.

The discussions covered strategic sectors including solar energy for rural electrification, smart-city development, livestock and dairy production, agricultural technologies, human capital development, agri-food processing, and medical infrastructure.

The companies also explored opportunities in remote medical support systems, workforce development, digital technology systems, green construction, and sustainable mobility solutions.

Governor Radda presented his administration's industrialization strategy, highlighting reforms, policies, and the enabling environment created to attract global investors.

"Our administration is committed to creating an enabling environment for sustainable investment. By partnering with leading international companies, we are accelerating industrialization, creating jobs, and empowering communities across Katsina State," the governor stated.

He reaffirmed his commitment to positioning Katsina as the preferred destination for international investment in northern Nigeria, supported by enhanced security, streamlined regulatory processes, and ready-to-deploy infrastructure.

The French and Italian companies commended Radda's proactive leadership, strategic vision, and determination to unlock economic opportunities for Katsina residents.

They noted that their financing capacity and investment expertise align closely with the state's development priorities.

Investment and International Partnerships Consultant, Mr. Ma'asum Auwal Jibrin, described the meeting as a major breakthrough.

"The interest from French and Italian investors demonstrates growing confidence in Katsina State as a destination for strategic partnerships. This is a strong signal for continued economic growth and innovation in the region," Jibrin said.

The governor was accompanied by Special Adviser on Power, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, and other officials.

The engagement represents a major milestone in Radda's mission to industrialize Katsina, strengthen food security, expand clean energy access, and position the state as a leading hub for modern agriculture, technology, and manufacturing in Nigeria.

Governor Radda's participation aligns with the Building Your Future administration's commitment to positioning Katsina as a hub for global investment, technology transfer, and sustainable development.

The Governor is expected to engage world leaders, international investors, and development partners to explore opportunities in agriculture, renewable energy, digital innovation, and manufacturing.

Governor Radda Mourns the Passing of Veteran Journalist Dan Agbese

“Nigeria has lost a towering voice of truth,” says Governor Radda

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has extended his condolences to the family of Chief Agbese over the passing of Chief Dan Ochima Agbese, the veteran journalist, celebrated columnist, and co-founder of Newswatch magazine, who died on Monday at the age of 81.

In his condolence message, Governor Radda described the late Agbese as one of Nigeria’s most distinguished media figures, a man whose mastery of language, commitment to truth, and decades of service helped shape modern journalism in the country.

“Dan Agbese was not just a journalist; he was an institution. His pen carried clarity, courage, and conviction. Through satire, commentary, and meticulous writing, he inspired generations and set standards that defined responsible journalism in Nigeria,” Governor Radda said.

The Governor noted that Agbese, born in Agila in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, lived a life marked by excellence from the very start, whether as editor of the Nigeria Standard and New Nigerian, as General Manager of Radio Benue, or later as co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Newswatch, one of the most influential publications in Nigeria’s media history.

“His works reflected discipline, intellect, and an uncommon dedication to national development. Even in his later years, he remained a guiding voice through his weekly columns in Daily Trust and The Guardian. His passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill,” the Governor added.

Governor Radda extended his condolences to the Agbese family, especially his wife, Rose, his children and grandchildren, as well as his long-time professional associates Ray Ekpu, Yakubu Muhammed, and Soji Akinrinade, who worked closely with him in the pioneering years of modern investigative journalism.

He also commiserated with the wider Nigerian media community, describing Agbese’s death as “a moment of collective grief for an entire profession that benefitted from his wisdom, courage, and integrity.”

On behalf of the Government and people of Katsina State, Governor Radda extends his condolences to the entire Agbese family in Benue, to the people of Benue, to the Newswatch community past and present, and to the broader Nigerian media fraternity who held Chief Agbese in the highest esteem.

He prayed that God grants his family the strength to bear this loss and that the legacy of the Benue-born media icon continues to inspire journalists across the nation.

“Chief Dan Agbese legacy will endure, not only in his writings and books but in the countless journalists he mentored and the generations he influenced through his example. May his memory be a blessing to all who cherished him,” Governor Radda prayed.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has positioned the state as a continental model for sustainable development, calling for enhanced international partnerships to support subnational climate action across Africa.

Speaking at the Nigerian Pavilion during COP30 in Belém, Brazil, Governor Radda, represented by the Special Adviser to the governor on Climate Change, Prof. Mohammed Al-Amin, delivered a compelling address themed "Imperative for International Collaborations and Supports Towards Climate Actions at Subnational Level: The Katsina State Pathway."

"Through our reforms, Katsina State has become a living model for Africa's green transition—a subnational proof-of-concept that sustainability is not a constraint on growth, but its most enduring foundation," Prof. Al-Amin declared.

He emphasized that Katsina State's transformation reflects a deliberate choice by his administration to make climate resilience and green growth the centerpiece of governance, driven by the daily realities of desertification, erratic rainfall, and declining agricultural productivity faced by the people.

Prof. Al-Amin highlighted key institutional reforms that have positioned Katsina State at the forefront of Africa's climate response, including the establishment of the Katsina State Council on Climate Change (KSCCC) under his direct chairmanship and the creation of the State Secretariat on Climate Change within the Office of the Governor. 

Prof. Al-Amin also noted the implementation of Africa's first subnational Green Public Procurement Executive Order, embedding sustainability standards in all government projects

"Our message to the world is clear: Africa's green growth will not emerge from rhetoric, but from action—and subnational governments are where that action begins," the Special Adviser said. 

The Katsina State delegation presented a portfolio of 30 bankable climate projects spanning solar energy, afforestation, climate-smart agriculture, and low-carbon urban development. These projects demonstrate the state's readiness to collaborate with development partners, multilateral institutions, and private investors.

He further outlined his vision for Katsina's Climate Resilience Fund and Green Growth Strategy to become channels for global cooperation, where international financing meets local action in alignment with the Paris Agreement and the African Union's Agenda 2063.

"As the world gathers at COP30 to renew its commitment to planetary stewardship, I invite our partners across governments, development finance institutions, and the private sector to join hands with us," Prof. Al-Amin appealed.

"Together, we can make Katsina State not just a beacon of green transformation in Nigeria, but a continental model for sustainable development in Africa," he added.

Prof. Al-Amin, on behalf of the Governor conveyed the assurances of President Bola Tinubu to all partners seeking to work with Nigeria, noting that "climate resilience converges with the Renewed Hope Agenda."

Katsina State participation at COP30 is part of the Radda-led administration participation underscores Katsina State's commitment to transformative climate and development outcomes at the subnational level.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s firm commitment to strengthening the MSME sector and expanding access to finance for small businesses across all 34 local government areas.

The Governor’s efforts received national recognition yesterday when he was presented with the SMEDAN Governor of the Year Award for SME Financial Support (North) during the 2025 National MSME Conference held at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos.

Governor Radda,  was represented by the Deputy Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal.

The Deputy Governor described the award as a welcome endorsement of the reforms currently transforming the business environment in Katsina, giving young people, women, and small enterprises greater economic opportunities.

This year’s conference, themed “GROW Nigerian: Building the Future of Innovation, Resilience and Prosperity,” brought together senior government officials, development partners, business leaders, and MSME operators from across the country. With more than 5,000 participants and 120 exhibitors, it remains one of the most influential gatherings for enterprise development in Nigeria.

The Deputy Governor commended SMEDAN and its Director-General, Dr. Charles Odii, for providing a platform that continues to expand innovation, partnerships, and financing opportunities for entrepreneurs nationwide.

He explained that the honour carries a deeper significance for the administration. He said that while the award reflects what has been achieved within a short time, it also places a greater responsibility on the government to keep moving forward.

“This award is not just a recognition of Governor Radda efforts—it is a call for us to rededicate ourselves to doing even more for the people of Katsina and for Nigeria,” he said. “His Excellency remains fully committed to securing our communities, supporting our entrepreneurs, and ensuring that government policies bring real improvements to people’s daily lives.”

He added that the Governor’s vision is anchored on service, accountability, and inclusive growth, and that the administration will continue building an economy where young people, women, and small business owners can stand on their own with dignity.

He noted that one of Governor Radda’s earliest economic interventions was the creation of the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency (KASEDA), which has become the State’s central institution for MSME empowerment, access to finance, and enterprise growth.

According to him, KASEDA has helped build a more transparent and supportive MSME ecosystem, driven by financial inclusion, skills development, and wider market access. This, he said, has reduced barriers for startups, strengthened local industries, and encouraged innovation among young business owners.

The Deputy Governor outlined several key initiatives, including the ₦5 billion Managed Fund created in partnership with the Bank of Industry, which has already provided affordable financing to more than 300 MSMEs across manufacturing, agriculture, fashion, and service sectors. He noted that this fund has become a major catalyst for job creation and productivity in the State.

He also highlighted the State’s ₦500 million counterpart contribution that unlocked additional UNDP support for entrepreneurs in the 13 security-affected LGAs, helping vulnerable business owners rebuild their livelihoods.

Another ₦500 million interest-free facility, created with Sterling Bank, is supporting petty traders, artisans, and micro-enterprises who often struggle to access credit through conventional financial institutions.

The Deputy Governor explained that joint programmes with the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) have trained over 2,000 youths and women in business management, digital skills, and financial literacy. He added that the State is revitalizing the Industrial Development Centre (IDC) in Tudun Matawalle to expand manufacturing and value-addition opportunities for local producers.

To enhance visibility for small businesses, he said Katsina entrepreneurs are receiving consistent support to participate in national exhibitions and trade fairs, giving them access to larger markets and new partnerships.

He shared success stories from the field, including that of a young woman in Daura who expanded her shea-butter business with support from KASEDA and now employs ten additional women—an example of how these interventions create wider community impact.

The Deputy Governor assured participants that the administration will continue to deepen reforms, widen financing options, and build more opportunities for entrepreneurs capable of competing locally and internationally.

He reaffirmed the State’s readiness to work closely with SMEDAN, development partners, and the private sector to strengthen Nigeria’s MSME ecosystem.

Speaking earlier, the Director-General of SMEDAN, Dr. Charles Odii, said the conference was designed to chart a future powered by innovation, resilience, and prosperity for Nigerian MSMEs.

He emphasized that access to finance remains one of the toughest challenges facing small businesses and announced that pitch competitions at the event would award grants of up to ₦20 million to outstanding entrepreneurs.

He also stressed the importance of digital capacity for MSMEs and pledged SMEDAN’s commitment to working with relevant agencies to remove bureaucratic bottlenecks and improve service delivery under the Agency’s GROW strategy, which focuses on guidance, resources, opportunities, and workforce development.

Delivering his keynote address, the Chairman of Heirs Holdings and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Mr. Tony Elumelu, highlighted the importance of building systems that help businesses move from survival to stability and long-term success.

He noted that many Nigerian entrepreneurs struggle not because their ideas are weak, but because the supporting structures around them are inadequate.

Chairman of Nigeria's Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, presented the award to Dr. Babangida Ruma, who received it on behalf of the Governor.

Speaking after receiving the award, the Director-General of KASEDA, Dr. Babangida Ruma, thanked SMEDAN for recognising Governor Radda strong drive to rebuild the MSME sector. He said no administration in the State has supported small businesses the way Governor Radda has done in just two years.

Dr. Ruma noted that the Governor’s reforms expanded grants, introduced easier loan schemes, strengthened cooperatives, and opened market opportunities for youth and rural entrepreneurs. He described the award as proof that the Governor’s policies are creating real change for the people.

He added that Katsina now has one of the most accessible SME support systems in the North.

According to him, KASEDA keeps its doors open to guide businesses on funding, training, and market access. “No idea is too small at KASEDA,” he said, praising the Governor for giving young entrepreneurs the confidence to grow and succeed.

Among those present at the conference were ministers including Dr. Jumoke Oduwole and Senator John Owan Enoh; development partners from GIZ and UNDP; the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adedeji; digital industry leaders; MSME operators; and participants from various masterclasses, including a session on content and storytelling led by Folagade Banks.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has expressed deep sadness over the deadly bandit attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The governor condemned the late-night assault that claimed the life of the school's Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, describing it as the worst form of criminality. 

Governor Radda commiserated with Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, the government and people of Kebbi State, and the families of the victims over the unfortunate incident.

He further called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted students and bring the perpetrators to justice.

"This attack on a school is not just an assault on education but an attack on our collective future. We must remain united in fighting these criminals who threaten the safety of our children," he said.

The governor prayed for the safe return of the abducted students and lasting tranquility across the nation.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to expanding access to clean, reliable, and sustainable energy across the state.

The Governor made this known today during an inspection visit to Kankia Local Government Area, where installation works for solar-powered streetlights are currently underway. 

The project, designed to enhance security, improve night-time commerce, and promote community safety, forms part of the administration’s broader renewable energy rollout under the Department of Power and Energy.

Representing the Department, Engr. Abdulaziz Kabir Abdullahi led the team that conducted the Governor through the installation process. The Governor expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of the work, commending the Department of Power and Energy, the contractor Kalamu Wahid Engineering Limited, and the project consultant Engr. Abdullahi Bature for their professionalism and dedication.

Governor Radda emphasized that this initiative reflects his administration’s determination to ensure access to electricity and illumination in every community of Katsina State.

 He further disclosed that similar installations will be replicated across other local government areas, in line with the state’s drive to improve public infrastructure and enhance the safety and well-being of citizens.

“This project is not just about lighting our streets—it is about powering progress, promoting safety, and improving livelihoods,” the Governor stated.

The solar streetlight initiative is part of Katsina’s broader clean energy transition program, which integrates solar, wind, hydro, and gas-to-power solutions to reduce costs, cut emissions, and strengthen energy security across the state.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has  launched the electronic Birth Registration (e-Birth Registration) Exercise in Katsina State, describing it as a historic milestone in the state’s efforts to ensure that every child is recognized, protected, and counted from birth.

The formal launch, held today at the Continental Event Centre in Katsina, brought together key national and state stakeholders, including the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Hon. Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar; the Director-General of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Kelsen Osifo Ojogun; representatives of UNICEF; the National Chairman and State Chairman of ALGON; representatives of the Emirs of Katsina and Daura; traditional and religious leaders; local government chairmen; and development partners.

In his remarks, Governor Radda said the e-Birth Registration initiative represents more than a ceremonial event, describing it as a decisive and transformative step toward ensuring that no child in Katsina State remains invisible—legally, socially, or statistically.

He emphasized that birth registration is the first legal recognition of a child’s identity and the foundation for accessing education, healthcare, social protection, and civic participation. “Without it,” he said, “a child exists in the shadows—vulnerable to exploitation, exclusion, and deprivation. For too long, millions of Nigerian children have grown up without this fundamental recognition. This is not just a systemic failure but a moral deficit we must correct.”

Governor Radda reaffirmed that under his administration, birth registration has become a key pillar of child protection and inclusive governance.

He announced that every Ward  and Village  across the 34 Local Government Areas of Katsina State will now serve as permanent Birth Registration Centres.

“This strategic decision embeds the registration process at the very heart of our communities, ensuring accessibility, cultural acceptance, and long-term sustainability,” he said.

The Governor further revealed that soon, birth certificates will be made mandatory for accessing essential government services such as education and healthcare.

“To parents, registering your child costs nothing but a few minutes of your time, yet it opens the door to a lifetime of rights and opportunities,” he said. “We are building a state where governance begins at birth, and justice begins with identity.”

He commended the Department of Girl Child Education and Child Development for its leadership; the National Population Commission for its technical expertise; ALGON for grassroots mobilization; and UNICEF for its steadfast partnership and provision of digital tools. “Together, you have laid the foundation for a birth registration system that is not only functional but transformative,” he added.

Governor Radda also called on traditional and religious leaders to champion the exercise and educate parents, while urging Local Government Chairmen to ensure that ward registrars are properly trained, equipped, and supervised.

To promote accountability and community participation, the Governor announced a competition among Local Governments and Wards, with recognition for the best-performing areas in the e-Birth Registration exercise.

In her welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Girl Child Education and Development, Jamila Abdu Mani, described the launch as a landmark in the history of child protection and governance in Katsina State. She praised Governor Radda’s visionary leadership and commitment to inclusive development, describing him as “a compassionate leader whose policies ensure that every child, boy or girl, is protected, educated, and given an identity from birth.”

She also paid tribute to the Governor’s royal heritage, linking his values of service and justice to the legacy of his grandfather, the late Emir Muhammad Dikko.

The Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr. Kelsen Osifo Ojogun, described the launch as a transformative milestone in Nigeria’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) modernization agenda, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope vision.

Dr. Ojogun highlighted the limitations of the old paper-based registration system and commended the new digital platform for offering secure, real-time, and tamper-proof data capture that integrates with national frameworks like NIMC and the banking sector.

He applauded Katsina State’s proactive collaboration and revealed that 361 ward-level registrars have been trained to ensure coverage across all communities. While acknowledging challenges such as network instability and infrastructure costs, he called for sustained cooperation through public-private partnerships.

Presenting the progress report, the Katsina State Director of the NPC Usman Saidu disclosed that the state has achieved remarkable progress in digital birth registration, increasing from 180,901 manually registered births in 2021 to over 566,000 digital registrations in 2025, marking full digitization.

He attributed the success to strong partnerships among the NPC, UNICEF, ALGON, and NIMC, with each registered child now automatically receiving a National Identification Number (NIN) or tracking ID.

In his goodwill message, the National Chairman of ALGON, Engr. Bello Lawal Kaita, described the initiative as one of the most important collaborations between local governments and development partners. He praised Governor Radda’s people-centered leadership and reaffirmed ALGON’s commitment to promoting good governance and accountability at the grassroots.

Speaking on behalf of UNICEF, Mr. Rahama Rihood Mohammed Farah, Chief Field Officer of the UNICEF Kano Field Office, commended Governor Radda for his leadership and commitment to children’s welfare. He said the launch reflects the success of a sustainable, community-driven model of birth registration and pledged UNICEF’s continued partnership to ensure that every child in Katsina is registered and recognized from birth.

Also speaking, the Katsina State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Muntari Tsagem, urged parents to take the exercise seriously, stressing that registering a child at birth secures their right to identity and access to future opportunities.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to clean energy transition and sustainable development, positioning Katsina as a national model for renewable innovation and energy security.

Speaking at the Nigeria Energy Leadership Summit, West Africa’s largest and most prestigious energy event, held at the Landmark Convention Centre in Lagos, Governor Radda, represented by the Deputy Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, delivered a special address titled “Building a Clean-Energy Future: Lessons from Katsina’s Solar, Wind, Hydro and CNG Projects.”

In his address, the Governor highlighted Katsina’s groundbreaking achievements in the renewable energy sector, disclosing that the state has approved and commenced the deployment of over 10 megawatts of solar photovoltaic systems with 10 megawatt-hours of battery storage across 11 key facilities, including universities, hospitals, polytechnics, waterworks, and the State House of Assembly.

“These projects are reducing energy costs, cutting emissions, and ensuring uninterrupted power for essential services such as healthcare, water supply, and education,” Governor Radda stated.

He further revealed the successful completion of a 1MW solar power installation at the Katsina State Secretariat, which now provides clean and stable electricity to government offices, boosting productivity and drastically reducing dependence on diesel-powered generators.

Governor Radda announced that Katsina is set to commission its first Liquefied and Compressed Natural Gas (LNG/CNG) facility, developed in partnership with Greenville LNG Limited, which is now over 90 percent complete.

“Once operational, this facility will support vehicle conversion to CNG and enable CNG-based power generation at significantly lower costs than diesel or petrol. It aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s Decade of Gas vision and represents another bold step toward cleaner, more affordable energy,” he said.

The Governor also emphasized Katsina’s pioneering role in wind energy, noting that the state is home to Nigeria’s first and only wind power project, the 10MW Lambar Rimi Wind Farm. He disclosed that discussions are ongoing with the Federal Government for its formal handover to the state, alongside its hybridization with an additional 10MW of solar capacity, creating one of West Africa’s first wind-solar hybrid systems.

“Once completed, it will stand as a symbol of innovation and sustainability, delivering cleaner, more reliable electricity to surrounding communities and industries,” he noted.

In partnership with the French Treasury and Oceans Énergie, the state is also implementing a 1MW mini-hydro project at Danja Dam, designed to provide electricity to rural communities, support irrigation schemes, and stimulate agro-industrial productivity.

Governor Radda further disclosed that 1.3MW of solar capacity with 1.3MWh of battery storage has already been deployed at the General Muhammadu Buhari Government House and General Hospital Katsina in partnership with Genesis Energy, further enhancing energy efficiency in governance and healthcare delivery.

In a landmark policy announcement, the Governor revealed plans to establish the Ministry of Power, Renewable Energy, and Energy Security, the first of its kind in Nigeria, to coordinate, regulate, and drive the state’s clean energy agenda.

“This pioneering ministry will consolidate our progress, strengthen coordination, and ensure that energy remains reliable, affordable, and accessible to every citizen,” he declared.

He also announced the state’s plan to establish a Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission in collaboration with neighbouring states to enhance regional grid stability, attract investors, and accelerate energy sector reforms.

The Governor added that his administration is deploying stand-alone solar systems to power micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises such as barbing salons, welding workshops, cold rooms, phone charging centres, and ICT hubs, thereby empowering entrepreneurs and boosting local economies.

He further highlighted Katsina’s collaboration with the governments of Kano and Jigawa through Future Energies Africa to develop a North-West Regional Electricity Market aimed at expanding off-grid access, improving energy security, and unlocking investment opportunities across the region.

“Our focus remains clear: to expand off-grid solar access across all local government areas, deepen rural electrification, and ensure every school, hospital, and water facility in Katsina operates on clean, dependable power,” he affirmed.

Governor Radda emphasized that energy security is the foundation of education, healthcare, and economic prosperity, noting that Katsina’s clean energy transition demonstrates what visionary leadership, political will, and strategic partnerships can achieve.

The Nigeria Energy Summit brought together the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Special Adviser to the Katsina State Governor on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed; members of the diplomatic corps; industry leaders; and development partners.

Governor Radda Congratulates Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman on Appointment as New Vice Chancellor of Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA)

The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has congratulated Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman on his appointment as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA).

Prof. Othman appointment was announced by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, His Excellency Ali Abubakar Jatau, following the 36th Special Meeting of the Council held at the Grand Amber Hotel and Suites, Dutse, Jigawa State.

Governor Radda described the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of Prof. Othman’s distinguished academic career and leadership record, noting that his vast experience as a scholar, researcher, and administrator will greatly benefit both the University and the wider education sector.

He commended the Governing Council for conducting a rigorous and transparent selection process, which saw Prof. Othman emerge from a pool of highly qualified candidates through merit and competence.

“Prof. Othman is a respected academic and an outstanding son of Katsina State whose contributions to agricultural research and higher education are widely acknowledged. His emergence as Vice Chancellor reflects excellence, integrity, and years of dedicated service,” the Governor said.

Governor Radda expressed confidence that under Prof. Othman’s leadership, FUDMA will witness stronger academic performance, improved research capacity, and deeper community engagement, in line with the University’s founding vision.

Prof. Othman, a proud son of Katsina State from Bindawa Local Government Area, is a renowned Agricultural Engineer and an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained his first, second, and third degrees. He has served in various capacities, including as Executive Director of the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), ABU Zaria, and is currently a member of the FUDMA Governing Council representing the Senate.

The Katsina State Government has once again reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment, innovation, and industrial growth under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda. 

The Governor has approved a specialized technical training programme for mechanics of the Central Mechanical Workshop at the Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV), alongside establishing collaboration with Autogig International Resources Ltd., Lagos.

The specialized training, which commenced yesterday and will run until November 3, is designed to upgrade the technical competence, innovation mindset, and hands-on skills of KYCV mechanics in line with global automotive standards.

The programme focuses on modern vehicle systems, advanced diagnostics, electric and hybrid technologies, IoT-enabled diagnostics, CNG kit installation, and workshop management. It combines rigorous classroom learning with hands-on sessions, giving participants practical exposure to emerging automotive technologies.

Speaking on the initiative, the Coordinator of the Katsina Youth Craft Village, Engr. Kabir Abdullahi, described the Governor’s approval as a visionary and transformative gesture that reflects the administration’s deep belief in the power of technical education to transform lives and communities.

He said, “What His Excellency has done is more than just approving training; it is an investment in the future of Katsina’s young people. This programme will open doors for our mechanics to learn the most modern automotive techniques that align with global best practices. They will be exposed to innovations reshaping the vehicle industry, including hybrid systems, digital diagnostics, and alternative energy technologies. This kind of practical training is what turns ordinary craftsmen into master technicians.”

He further explained that the Central Mechanical Workshop is being repositioned to serve as a centre of excellence for automotive innovation and training, where young mechanics can continually upgrade their knowledge and become self-reliant professionals contributing to the state’s industrial development.

“We are grateful to Governor Radda for his foresight and his continuous investment in the Katsina Youth Craft Village. He is not just providing opportunities; he is building capacity, restoring dignity to technical labour, and giving our youths a platform to dream beyond the ordinary. This is how societies grow, through knowledge, skill, and vision,” the Coordinator added.

A major highlight of the initiative is the discussion between Autogig International and the Katsina Youth Craft Village, aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and ensuring sustainable technical development. The discussions which will lead to signing an MoU, covers key areas such as authentic and affordable spare parts supply, joint technical research, staff training, and industry linkages with major automotive manufacturers.

This partnership will help reposition the Katsina Youth Craft Village as a trusted, government-backed hub for modern vehicle repair, diagnostics, and innovation in Northern Nigeria.

Facilitated by top industry experts, the training exposes participants to the latest innovations in electric and hybrid vehicle systems, digital fault detection, and clean energy conversion. It also emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and workshop management, skills essential for building professional discipline and sustainable workshop operations.

The Youth Craft Village Transformation Programme, under which this initiative falls, remains one of the flagship interventions of the Katsina State Government’s Building Your Future agenda. Its objective is to nurture a generation of skilled, self-reliant, and entrepreneurial youths equipped with the technical knowledge to drive industrial and technological advancement across the state.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has restated his administration’s strong commitment to partnerships that improve the lives of citizens, especially women, children, youth, and vulnerable groups.

The Governor said this during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Katsina State Government and Qatar Charity Nigeria. The agreement opens a new chapter of cooperation in humanitarian and social development across the state.

Governor Radda described the MoU as the formalization of an existing partnership that has already made a difference through empowerment, healthcare, and education.

“We truly appreciate your continued support,” the Governor said. “Your assistance has helped improve the lives of our people. You were here recently to distribute empowerment kits, and those items have brought real relief to many families across the state.”

He explained that the MoU gives structure to a long-standing relationship between both parties. “This signing creates shared responsibilities. As a government, we will fully meet our commitments and ensure the sustainability of all Qatar Charity projects in Katsina,” he added.

The Governor praised Qatar Charity for its generosity and long-term partnership. “Even before this formal signing, Qatar Charity has done a lot for Katsina State. We remain deeply grateful for your continued interventions,” he said.

Radda also appealed for further support in education. “We would like to see in Katsina the same multi-purpose educational projects you have built in other states. Our people deserve such impactful initiatives, and you can always count on us as a reliable partner,” he stated.

He assured that his government will implement the agreement with transparency and accountability, noting that it aligns with his Building Your Future development agenda, which focuses on human capital development.

“Our goal is to strengthen the institutions that directly touch people’s lives such as schools, hospitals, and empowerment centres. Partnerships like this help us reach those goals faster,” the Governor added.

In his remarks, the Qatar Charity Country Director to Nigeria, Mr. Assem Abu Al Shaer, reaffirmed the organization’s support for Governor Radda’s vision through practical projects that impact communities directly.

Mr. Al Shaer commended the Governor’s people-focused leadership and transparency, noting that such values attract credible international partners to the state.

As part of the new MoU, Qatar Charity announced the donation of more medical equipment to improve healthcare delivery. Under this commitment, all newly renovated Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) will receive Electronic Blood Pressure Machines, while 15 General Hospitals will be supplied with Electric Wheelchairs to support physically challenged patients.

Mr. Al Shaer explained that the donation aligns with Qatar Charity’s global mission to strengthen health systems and improve access for vulnerable groups. He also pledged continued partnership with the Katsina State Government in health, education, and empowerment initiatives.

The MoU clearly defines the roles of both parties. Qatar Charity, an international NGO registered under Nigerian law, is the First Party, while the Katsina State Government is the Second Party, committed to policies that improve citizens’ welfare.

The agreement covers key intervention areas including education through school construction, scholarships, and materials; healthcare through medical outreaches, surgeries, and facility upgrades; social housing; empowerment programmes with sewing machines, motorcycles, and farm tools; as well as water supply, food security, and relief support.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser on Girl-Child Education, Hon. Jamila Abdu Mani, who facilitated the MoU through her office, expressed optimism about its impact.

“This collaboration will open new doors of opportunity for our women and girls,” she said. “We are proud to have facilitated this partnership and look forward to the positive results it will bring to education, healthcare, and social welfare.”

The partnership builds on Governor Radda’s ongoing reforms in the health sector. His administration has been renovating and equipping hospitals and PHCs, and recruiting health workers to improve service delivery, especially in rural areas.

With the latest intervention from Qatar Charity, access to healthcare at both primary and secondary levels is expected to improve significantly, particularly in underserved communities.

Governor Radda’s administration continues to earn the trust of credible international organizations through transparency and a people-centred approach. The new partnership adds to the growing list of collaborations driving progress in education, healthcare, and social development in Katsina State.

“This MoU represents hope and shared humanity,” the Governor said. “Together, we are showing that compassion, when institutionalized through partnership, can transform lives and build a better future.”
