The sitting of the Katsina State Commission of Inquiry was yesterday obstructed as the principal accused person, ex-governor
of Katsina State Ibrahim Shema filed an application at the Court of Appeal, Kaduna, challenging the ruling of an earlier high court that granted approval for the continuation of the inquiry.
According to Daily Trust report, the memoranda from Ministry of Local Government, SURE-P, Environment, Girl Child, Community Development, ALGON and KASSROMA were scheduled for yesterday’s sitting over about N46 billion allegedly stolen by Shema alongside past and serving state and local government officials.
It was reported that the counsel to the commission, Hassan Liman (SAN) told the commission that at 8.50am, a letter was received at the commission secretariat informing them of a pending motion before the said higher court.
Liman said the motion at the appeal court was sent in by Shema’s counsel Dayo Akinlaja (SAN) which sought for an injunction to restrain the commission from further sitting pending its determination at the appeal court.
“I advise the commission to adjourn the hearing and look at the processes of the motion with a view to advising and taking appropriate action,” he said.
In his ruling, chairman of the commission, Justice Muhammad Suraj adjourned to a date to be communicated to enable the commission study the appeal motion.
We can recal that the former governor had earlier dragged the commission before a state high court where he lost before filing the appeal in Kaduna.
