Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State said no amount of restructuring would solve the nation’s problem unless the fundamental issues were addressed.
Speaking at the opening of a two-day retreat for the northern senators in Katsina, the governor stated the north is blessed with abundant resources.
“Create 1,000 states, it will not solve the problem. The problem is not creating the state or local government but addressing the fundamental issues.
“Unless there is proper devolution, devolution with responsibilities, it won’t address the fundamental issues,” He said.
Governor Masari stressed that the only problem bedeviling the northern part of Nigeria is quality of leadership.
He advised the senators against opposing restructuring.
“We should not be afraid of restructuring.’’
He advised that the north should not be derided and “we should not be afraid’’.
The meeting had in attendance 59 senators led by senate President Bukola Saraki, Three state governors of Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara. The sultan of Sokoto Saad Abubakar, chairman of northern elders forum Ibrahim Coomassie.
