Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari said they were betrayed after they had reconciled with the bandits to bring peace to the northwest
In a BBC interview with the governor on Instagram, Masari said that the terrorists attacking people in Katsina State includes those from Niger Republic and neighboring Zamfara and Kaduna states.
Masari said it was his government that started the compromise in 2016, and said the compromise was effective at first but later the bandits betrayed the government.
He said those who do not believe in the compromise are back in action, and now the security forces should be reconciled with them.
"We followed the peace process to find peace and we did our best but it was difficult," He said.
He said the reconciliation with the bandits led to the abolition of the voluntary movement and to provide them with a means of transporting their cattles and of bringing their goods to market.
The governor also said they appealed to the federal government and soldiers and planes were sent to work between Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto to crush the bandits.
Masari also said security forces were complaining about lack of equipment. "They don't have enough equipment. They need a lot of equipment."
