Katsina State Governor inaugurates Third Children's Parliament

The katsina state Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has inaugurated the third children's Parliament in the state.

Speaking shortly before inaugurating the Parliament, Alhaji Aminu Masari commended the idea of the Parliament, which he noted would help in producing future leaders in not only Katsina State but the country at large.

Masari charged the new speaker and members of the new Parliament to work towards championing the rights of children in the state.

He assured that his administration would remain focus towards implementing policies that accord priority to education in the state.

The special Adviser on Girl child education and child development, Hajiya Binta Abba Umar, in her remark,  revealed that the Parliament was initiated by the United Nations to accord children the rights to express themselves.

The tenure of the second Parliament, which begun in 2007 expired in 2014. She said.

According to Hajiya Binta, the Parliament with 68 children of between eleven to sixteen years were chosen in conjunction with officials of the state ministry of education.

She further explained the training and election of the speaker and members was done under the supervision of the principal officers of Katsina State House of Assembly.

In a goodwill message, an official of SAVE THE CHILDREN, Hajiya Aisha Suleiman said the save the children, which had the support of Canadian government sponsored the election of the Parliament in the state.

She expressed optimism that the political consciousness of the children would be raised and appealed to the new Parliament to the rules establishing it.

Hajiya Aisha Suleiman called on katsina state government to create child protection committee in the state.
She prayed God to save children from various form of abuses in the state.

Also in a message presented by the member representing Rimi in the state house of assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman Abukur, the speaker, Alhaji Aliyu Sabi'u Muduru assured that the house would assist to nurture the children Parliament in the state.

In a post inaugural speech, the speaker of the children Parliament, a senior secondary one student of Government science secondary school, Faskari, Master Abdurrahman assured that the Parliament, which would be sitting during holidays would live up to its expectations for the rights of children to be fully protected in Katsina State.
